A lot of people start having a bad day the moment they look in the mirror. Pimples and other facial anomalies can develop during sleep. Since individuals normally cannot control movement and position during sleep, the face can be prone to a lot of dirt and stress even amidst blankets and bed sheets. Here are some tips on how to achieve that fresh look every waking moment.

Get Enough Sleep

Lack of sleep and inadequate rest periods can predispose individuals to unwanted pimples, eyebags and dark circles. Adults should aim for at least 7 hours of uninterrupted sleep every night while teenagers should get 8 to 10 hours regularly. Young adults and menstruating women should avoid going to bed late or stay past their bedtime since their hormones are not yet stable. Any unnecessary stress will take its toll on the skin leading to irritation and breakouts.

It is advisable that people wake up on their own accord without the assistance of an alarm clock to ensure that their body and skin in particular is fully rested. Full sleep also helps detoxify the body and maintain regular anti-inflammatory and anti-infection functions of organs and cells which in turn lead to healthy skin. Staying late once a week is acceptable considering that the person makes up for it the next day through a one or two-hour nap at noon.

As much as possible, people should practice keeping their hands away from their faces at all times. The hands can harbor a lot of bacteria and irritants that can transfer and cause zits. Experts suggest that sleeping on one side can reduce the number of times a person unconsciously touches his or her face during non-wakeful hours. Individuals may also assume the prone position with one side of the head rested on a clean pure cotton pillow. Some specially designed pillows have a huge hole in the middle where the head can be rested face down. At best, pimple sufferers should make it a habit to thoroughly wash their hands with clean water and soap before bedtime to remove any existing germs.

Washing Your Face Properly at Night

Oil can develop through the night continuing to clog pores and predisposing individuals to unwanted breakouts. Just before bedtime, the face should be thoroughly washed with hypoallergenic soap and water. Work into an adequate amount of lather then gently apply on the face. Avoid excessive scrubbing or directly rubbing the soap on the skin hard since this can irritate pores and cause inflammatory responses. Skin drying and flaking can also develop which makes the skin more vulnerable to germs and infection.

Use slow circular rhythmic patterns using the forefinger and middle finger and allow the skin to relax and rejuvenate. Rinse the entire face, neck and area behind the ears thoroughly with water. Use a soft cotton towel to pat the areas dry. Do not rub the towel hard against the skin to prevent irritation. Using too many soaps and cleansers may also tend to dry up the skin so it may be better to stick to only one or two.

Use the Right Products

There are so many cosmetic products available which are used regularly by millions to keep their skin looking radiant and fresh. Some are specifically made for nighttime application to prevent moisture and excessive oiling of the face. Experts do not recommend moisturizers at night since these can instead make matters worse in terms of oil accumulation. There are creams, oils and astringents available rich in vitamin A and E that help prevent irritation as well as revitalizes the skin for a great looking morning appearance.

There are also natural and herbal products known to have beneficial effects on the skin to treat and prevent acne during sleep. Some people suggest placing a slice of cucumber over each eye to prevent dark circles and eyebags while others place shredded papaya on their forehead and cheeks to improve skin condition in the area. Consuming some things may also have drastic effects on the person's appearance the morning after. A glass of water or milk is advised while several caution against taking decaffeinated coffee, sugary treats, oily food and alcohol before sleeping.
