All pimples form the same way, but they have different characteristics and shapes. They also can behave differently on different people. Acne occurs when a hair follicle becomes clogged and inflamed. This forms what's called a comedo. As the follicle continues becoming even more clogged, the comedo becomes engorged and inflamed, and forms a pimple. There are several types of acne, and each requires a different treatment.

If the acne is not inflamed, this is usually a closed comedo, or a whitehead. With a whitehead, the clogged hair follicle stays underneath the surface of the skin, and it appears as a small whitish "pimple."

A blackhead is an open comedo where the plugged portion gets larger and pushes through the surface. It doesn't look black because of dirt, but because of the melanin in the skin. This is another type of inflammatory acne.

The least severe type of inflammatory acne is called a papule, a pink bump, small and firm, which appears on the skin's surface. These are sensitive to the touch and are often considered an "in between" of non-inflammatory and inflammatory acne.

Pustules resemble papules because they are round, small lesions. However, pustules are inflamed and contain pus. At the base, they are red and have a whitish or yellowish center. In general, they don't contain a lot of bacteria, but they are irritated and inflamed because of interaction with sebum components.

Cystic acne, also called nodular acne, is very painful. These nodules are pus filled, inflamed lesions that are lodged deep within the skin. They occur when a comedo has burst open and spilled into the surrounding skin; the immune system responds with pus. This type of acne might remain for weeks or even months, and eventually harden into a cyst. Both cysts and nodules can leave deep scars.

Acne conglobata is a type of inflammatory acne that's very rare. It forms primarily on the buttocks, back and chest. It, too, has pustules and nodules, and it may also eventually lead to severe bacterial infection.

Acne cosmetica is a relatively mild form of acne. This is caused by topical application of cosmetic products. It leads to small pink bumps, with inflammation occurring on the chin, cheek and forehead. It can develop over a few weeks or a few months, but usually does not cause scars. It can persist indefinitely, but can go away if you find out what's causing it. Therefore, it is imperative to find out what is causing this type of acne's appearance.

Once you find out what causes your acne, you can treat it. Your doctor can help you find out where it's coming from, so that you can cure it.

Acne is a terrible condition and supposed "cures" are a dime a dozen. Most of these cures are old-wives-tales, or myths and have no effect whatsoever on acne. There is, however, one treatment program that stands above the rest. To learn more visit: http://www.natural-cures-for-acne.com/

Customer Review: Good tips!
I bought this dvd to show to my girls so they could learn how to apply makeup after seeing one of my daughters walk out of the bathroom one day with eyeshadow above her eyebrows. It was a great buy and we learned a lot from the dvd. Catherine Hickman keeps it really simple and uses the same technique over and over so you can see what you should do. My girls loved it and so did I. We were inspired to get on to Catherine Hickman's website, www.catcosmetics.com, and order some of her products. The products were excellent quality and beautiful colors and we are going to buy more. She had so many great makeup tips and we felt we could use all the information in the dvd. She really taught us how to wear makeup without looking like we have a mask on. She had a great tip for me, the mom on the go who has no time to apply makeup, and now I am able to pull myself together and look pretty even though I have no time. She was practical and told us that we could get away with buying cheap makeup but to splurge on good brushes- the key being to blend the makeup so it looks natural. My favorite part of the video is the introduction when she walks up to the camera and she has no makeup on! Kudos to her for being honest and making glamor accessable to the average Jane.

As anyone who has ever suffered knows, acne can be a debilitating condition, causing humiliation and embarrassment for the sufferer. Often the plague of adolescence, acne can also give rise to deeper psychological problems. Many sufferers feel a low self esteem, and left with little self-respect. Furthermore, it is a difficult condition to treat indefinitely, although there are a few natural remedies which have proven to be successful in treating the condition.

Acne is a recognised medical condition, and there are treatments available on prescription from your doctor. Additionally, you can buy a variety or medications over the counter, and there are countless books and programs for you to follow, although their success very much varies. It's really a case of trying and experimenting until you find things that suit you. Of course, by making some lifestyle alterations, you could help your condition.

The first thing you can do to work on reducing acne is to alter your diet. A healthy diet has been proven to help improve complexion, and it is clearly not going to hinder your condition. Try building your diet around a combination of carbohydrates, proteins and fat in proportion, and combine with healthy foods and snacks. Try to eat a healthy balance and consider everything in moderation. Additionally, why not consider a daily vitamin supplement to boost your immunity and the condition of your skin. Add fruit and vegetables wherever possible, and drink plenty of water. Keeping your body hydrated will have a substantial impact on the appearance of your skin.

Whilst configuring a diet plan to improve your acne you may also want to think about cutting out oily and fatty foods. These can lead to excess grease in the pores which ultimately contribute to acne. Additionally, you should think about using cleanser and other cosmetic products to keep your skin fresh, whilst not greasy. The products are out there, so experiment to find something that suits you and your skin type.

Acne is a terrible condition, and sufferers can feel tremendous loss of self worth, with no clear way out. Fortunately, there are a variety of remedies both natural and synthetic and they come in a variety of different forms to help your condition. It doesn't have to be the end of the world, but with a sensible and persistent approach, you should cut out the bulk of the problem.

Neutrogena Healthy Skin Liquid Makeup, SPF 20, 1.1 Fl Oz (32 ml) (Pack of 2)

Make-up brushes and pencils need special care as they come in direct contact with that most sensitive part of your body your skin. Use these 5 free beauty tips to keep a high standard.

Free beauty tip #1:

Clean makeup brushes with a mild liquid soap.

Cup your hand, put in a little soapy water and swish the brushes in the palm of your hand until they are clean.

Rinse, reshape, and hang over the edge of a table so the air can dry them naturally.

To avoid damaging them, do not soak them in a sink or wrap them in a towel to dry.

Free beauty tip #2:

When purchasing an eyebrow brush, be sure it has firm bristles.

A soft brush will only slide over the surface.

A firm brush will groom and control the short eyebrow hairs.

Free beauty tip #3:

Use a concealer brush to apply concealer to the innermost corner of the eye.

This small, firm brush with a tip can reach this difficult spot which often appears dark as it is so recessed. In the absence of a concealer brush, use a finger to apply the concealer.

Free beauty tip #4:

If you wish to invest in quality makeup brushes, purchase natural bristle rather than synthetic bristles.

Sable is a strong favorite. Make sure the bristles are packed tight and not loose. Brush the back of the hand to make sure it doesn't lose too many bristles.

Free beauty tip #5:

When using an eyebrow pencil, use short, diagonal strokes in the direction of the hair growth.

Give more attention to areas where there are less hairs rather than an even coverage.

Note: Avoid the temptation to use an eyeliner pencil on the eyebrows. They are soft and malleable, ideal for the delicate eye area. An eyebrow pencil needs to be fairly hard to allow you to create tiny strokes in specific areas.
